Fantastic Friday!

We got a new server in at work today. The geek in me in loving it because it gets to be my toy until we are ready to turn it loose. The sucker has 2 dual-core Intel Xeon processors, so that means it has a total of four-cores. In other words, as far as Windows is concerned, it has 4 processors.  It wasn’t as large as I thought it would be, but it is HEAVY. Over (or around) 75 pounds.

Bad news is the thing came with Windows 2003 Standard and SQL Server 2005. Both of which I knew nothing about. I say “knew” because now that I have setup the server, I know something about it. Actually, it was a great day. Everything went right. SQL Server installed without a hitch. The server booted up. The only hiccup was that it was using .NET 2.0 for ASP.NET and I needed it to use 1.1. Well, one search on Google gave me the solution to that problem. Anyway, I took the server out of the box at 11:30 AM and had our web site up and running on it by 3:30 PM. I think I deserve and medal for that or something.

Time to go home so I can go on my date with Jennifer. We are going to see Pirates of the Caribbean because Superman doesn’t appear in the theaters anymore. Oh, well. The way they do DVDs now, I should be able to buy it in another 3 weeks.
